Maintaining Your Status
Re-certification
To maintain their European Specialist Status and full membership of the College, Diplomates must re-accredit every 5 years. The process is coordinated by the College Secretary and assessed by the Certification and Credentials Committee.
The Process
Step 1 · March
Notification
Diplomates are contacted by the College Secretary in March of the year their re-accreditation is due.
Step 2 · By November
Submission
Documentation must be submitted to the Certification and Credentials Committee by November of the year re-accreditation is due.
Step 3
Assessment
The Certification and Credentials Committee reviews submissions using a points-based scoring system.
What is Assessed
01
Clinical and Research Activity
Evidence of current clinical and research activity in the speciality, assessed via a points-based scoring system.
02
Activities Supporting the College
Participation in college committees, governance, or other activities that support the ECVM.
03
Participation in Residency Training
Evidence of contribution to the supervision and training of residents during the 5-year period.
04
College Fees and AGM Attendance
Members must be current with college fees and must have attended the college AGM at least twice during the last 5-year period.
Special Circumstances
Exceptional Personal Circumstances
Those with exceptional personal circumstances such as illness or parental leave that may have prevented them from fulfilling requirements can apply to the Exceptional Personal Circumstances Committee, with evidence, for extensions to the re-accreditation period.
Choosing Not to Re-certify
Those who do not wish to re-accredit, for example retiring Diplomates, should notify the Secretary. They will retain their Diplomate title but will no longer be eligible to:
→Claim European Specialist status
→Vote at the college AGM
→Supervise or examine residents
→Hold college committee positions
