Kristin Mühldorfer works as a veterinary wildlife bacteriologist at the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW). She concluded her doctoral thesis in 2012, focusing on diseases and infectious agents of bats. In 2013, she moved to the Institute of Poultry Diseases at the Freie Universität Berlin, where she was responsible for the bacteriology and serology laboratories, associated doctoral students and education. She has been back at the IZW since December 2014 and heads the bacteriology laboratory in the Department of Wildlife Diseases. Her research interests lie in the field of wildlife diseases, with a focus on novel, emerging bacterial pathogens and the development of reliable diagnostic databases for wildlife species. In 2020 she was recognized by the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Microbiology. She has been a member of the ECVM Committee on Exceptional Personal Circumstances since 2025.
